A type 1 diabetes diagnosis at age 15 didn’t stop avid hockey player, Andy Suhy. After learning to take control of his diabetes while successfully competing in sports, Andy played Division 1 college hockey, was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings, won two championships in the Detroit organization, founded Type1Rules, authored two diabetes management books, and became an inspirational speaker for people with diabetes.

Andy’s new release, Kids’ Guide to Defending Against Diabetes, is an educational and inspirational book featuring the Diabetes Defender and his creative ways to coach kids to take ownership of their disease.
In addition to Type1Rules, Andy serves on the board of a local diabetes non-profit support organization in the Toledo, Ohio, area and provides comprehensive mentoring, advocacy and individual plan development for children and families struggling to cope with the never-ending challenges of living with type 1 diabetes.
